Home Farm Saltby extends to almost 2600 acres.  This includes a 350 acre dairy unit which is  let on an FBT to a family who moved up from Devon to  take on this exciting opportunity. The remaining acreage is in arable production currently growing wheat, oats and oilseed rape.

Some of our wheat is sold on contract through Openfield, a farmer co-operative, to Warburtons for milling to produce bread.  The oats are also sold for milling and go to make breakfast cereals,  in particular Alpen and Jordan’s cereal bars.  The oilseed rape is crushed and used to produce vegetable cooking oils or biofuel.

The farm is entered into environmental and woodland schemes aimed at enhancing the environment,  it is also part of the River Eye Catchment Sensitive Farming Project and we look after a Site of Special Scientific Interest  on the estate.

More details of up-to-date planting are available on the arable page.
